Snowmobile driver, pedestrian killed in collision

Two people were killed Dec. 27 when a snowmobile hit a pedestrian on Lee Valley Road in Sables-Spanish Rivers Township, said the Ontario Provincial Police.

The victims have been identified as 43-year-old Christopher Labelle from Webbwood, the pedestrian involved in the crash, and Royal Peters from Massey, who was driving the snowmobile.

Espanola Ontario Provincial Police officers, with assistance from Anishinabek Police Service-Sagamok detachment, responded to the collision at 8:15 p.m.

The investigation continues. Police believe speed and weather conditions were factors. Post-mortem examinations were scheduled for Dec. 30 and Dec. 31.
