A Greater Sudbury police officer was assaulted Jan. 13 when he tried to conduct a field sobriety test on a suspected drunk driver.

Employees of a retail store on Notre Dave Avenue contacted police at about 7:20 p.m. to alert officers to what they believed was a drunk driver near their business.

When the officer located the vehicle and pulled it over, the driver refused. When the officer went to arrest the driver, the driver resisted and assaulted the officer.

The driver was arrested and is charged with refusing the field sobriety test, resisting arrest and aggravated assault on a police officer.

The officer was taken to Health Sciences North where he received medical treatment.
