Police issue 24 tickets during Snowmobile Safety Week

A total of 24 tickets were handed out during Snowmobile Safety Week, which ended Jan. 26, said Greater Sudbury Police Service. Greater Sudbury Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police joined forces to patrol area trails and enforce laws.

A total of 24 tickets were handed out during Snowmobile Safety Week, which ended Jan. 26, said Greater Sudbury Police Service.

Greater Sudbury Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police joined forces to patrol area trails and enforce laws. About 235 snowmobiles were checked last weekend.

The following provincial offences notices were issued:
-1 — Speeding
-2 — No trail permit
-2 — No registration numbers
-1 — No licence
-4 — Fail to surrender insurance card
-12— Improper muffler
-1 — No helmet
-1 — No helmet

Several warnings were issued for a variety of offences. Police also responded to a single snowmobile collision 11 km south east of Long Lake on Jan. 26. The female operator was taken to hospital by air ambulance for non-life threatening injuries. This collision is still under investigation.
