Traffic stop nets drug charges for 5 people

Five people face a variety of drug charges when Greater Sudbury Police Service conducted a traffic stop in the area of Notre Dame and Lasalle Boulevard on Feb. 21.

Officers from the drug and K9 unit conducted the traffic stop at about 12:40 a.m. They searched the vehicle and its five occupants and found a quantity of cocaine, fentanyl patches, hydromorphone pills, a set of brass knuckles, seven cellphones, packaging material and Canadian currency.

The total value of drugs seized is $30,570 and cash seized was $285, said Greater Sudbury Police Service in a news release.

A man and woman, 33 years old and 28 years old respectively, from Greater Sudbury were arrested, as were a 41-year-old man from Brampton, a 20-year-old woman from Mississauga and a 20-year-old man, also from Brampton.

They all face three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a controlled substance and possession of property obtained by crime.

The 28-year-old Sudbury woman is also charged with possession of a prohibited weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession of a prohibited weapon. The 33-year-old Sudbury man and the 20-year-old Brampton man are also charged with breach of probation.
