Wanted in connection with fatal shooting outside a nightclub May 4
Greater Sudbury Police Service police announced the arrest, which is connected to the night club killings that left one man dead and two others injured.
The suspect, who police have not yet named, was arrested at 6 a.m. this morning at the train station in Capreol. Sudbury police were “acting on information from the Winnipeg Police Service,” a news release said.
Members of the Criminal Investigations Division, Tactical and Drug Units, and Uniform Division made the arrest.
“The accused was arrested without incident and will be making a court appearance later today in Sudbury,” the release said.
Police in Winnipeg are scheduled to hold a news conference later today to give more details about the case. According to local media reports, the murder victim, Rustom Paclipan, 23, was shot and killed just outside the club around 2 a.m. on May 4. It was that city's ninth murder of 2014.
The case has already caused some controversy in Winnipeg because it emerged that an initial 911 call made at 1:40 a.m. by staff about a fight outside the nightclub was cancelled. A Global TV news report said a second 911 call was made at 2:03 about the shooting, and police arrived three minutes later. An investigation into the cancelled 911 call is already underway.
