Resident, police officer help quell garbage bin fire

Fire was set to a garbage bin on Kathleen Street at about 1:40 a.m. May 19. Prior to the arrival of firefighters, a neighbour successfully controlled the fire with a garden hose while a police officers used a fire extinguisher.

Fire was set to a garbage bin on Kathleen Street at about 1:40 a.m. May 19. Prior to the arrival of firefighters, a neighbour successfully controlled the fire with a garden hose while a police officers used a fire extinguisher.

Thanks to the efforts of a concerned resident and a police officer, a fire was contained to a garbage bin outside the Jem Mart on Kathleen Street, said Greater Sudbury Police Service.

Fire was set to the garbage bin at about 1:40 a.m. May 19. Prior to the arrival of firefighters, a neighbour successfully controlled the fire with a garden hose while a police officers used a fire extinguisher.

No injuries are reported and the area buildings were not damaged.

The arson is under investigation and police are canvassing the area.
