Greater Sudbury Police have laid several charges as a result of an enforcement blitz held Wednesday.

All month long, police are focusing on checking commercial trucks for violations, as well as for equipment problems for all vehicles, including such things as broken headlights.

“Members of the public have provided information regarding the use of illegal truck routes, speeding and other CMV safety concerns,” police said in a news release Friday. “In response to this, members of the traffic management unit partnered with Sudbury OPP members to conduct a commercial motor vehicle enforcement blitz.”

Police checked 37 commercial vehicles were stopped during the blitz. In addition to several warnings, police also issued several tickets and notices, including:

- One driver for operating and unsafe vehicle;
- One for operating a motor vehicle not in accordance with permit limitations;
- One ticket was issued for using a hand-held device while driving;
- Three vehicles were found to have an insecure load; and,
- Eight failed to display/surrender inspection device/report.

In addition, one commercial vehicle was put out of service and three licence plates were seized and returned to the Ministry of Transportation for inspection violations.
