A driver of a tractor trailer is facing careless driving charges after he lost control of his rig and ended up in the ditch on highway 17 near Santala Road.

The Sudbury detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the call around 4:30 a.m. on June 19.

Investigation revealed that the male driver was travelling westbound and slowly drifted off the south shoulder, striking the guide rails. The driver lost control and the tractor trailer rolled into the south ditch losing part of the load.

The driver and passenger were not injured.

Traffic is slow going on Highway 17 as the OPP closed the westbound lane near the Santala overpass. There is no estimate on when the lane will be reopened.
