The next court appearance for a 17-year-old girl suspected in the murder of 20-year-old Allan Ashawasagai is scheduled for July 10.
The suspect, whose name cannot be released under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, appeared in Sudbury court June 26, via CCTV from the Near North Youth Centre in North Bay.
Her lawyer asked the case be adjourned for two weeks, due to the serious nature of the crime, and to give law enforcement time to collect more evidence.
The suspect was charged with second-degree murder, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and breach of probation after Ashawasagai was killed in a Bloor Street home on June 3, 2014.
The Near North Youth Centre is a temporary detainment centre for young females who have become involved with the criminal justice system.
The centre offers cognitive behaviour programs such as drug consequences, peer counselling and life skills.
It also includes a community support team that provides counselling services for high risk youth.
