Wild animals are making their own rules on the road this summer. The Sudbury detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is warning drivers to look out for wild animals on or near roadways this summer.

Deer and moose have been pushed from wooded areas by increased presence of mosquitoes and black flies, while the search for new food sources has bears on the move, as well.

Drivers are encouraged to reduce speeds in areas where animals are known to cross, especially at night. Scan the sides of the roads as animals could jump out at any time.

If an animal is encountered on the road, stop to avoid a potential collision. If you cannot stop in time, take appropriate evasive action, and attempt to take the safest route around the animal while considering oncoming traffic, the OPP says.
