A 21-year-old man has been charged with public mischief for misleading police during an investigation Sept. 29, said Greater Sudbury Police Service.

Officers responded to a complaint of a 21-year-old man claiming he was in New Sudbury, and that he had been stabbed in the arm.

He was located by police and taken to Health Sciences North.

Police started interviewing witnesses at the scene, and learned the victim and his brother had been drinking when they started arguing. It escalated into a fight, and when one brother lost the fight, he left the house in anger. He punched and broke a car window.

“The wounds suffered by the injured male were, in fact, inadvertently caused by him when he smashed the window and cut himself on the glass,” said police in a news release. “The injured male was given a number of opportunities to tell the truth, but kept insisting he had been stabbed.”

He is to appear in court on Nov. 14. He was treated for minor injuries and released from the hospital. A second person is also expected to be charged.
