Drivers charged with impaired

Here is a breakdown:

On Wednesday, Oct. 1 at about 8 p.m., police investigated an impaired driving complaint on Larch Street in Greater Sudbury. Witnesses provided police with information which led to the arrest of a 25-year-old man who was charged with impaired care of control of a motor vehicle and having over 80mgs of alcohol after breath tests revealed he had two and half times the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.

He was released with a pending court date. His licence was suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

On Saturday, Oct. 4 at about 12:15 a.m., uniform officers stopped a vehicle on The Kingsway to investigate the driver regarding a criminal matter. The driver was found to have a suspended licence and had a warrant out for his arrest. Further investigation revealed the he had consumed alcohol. He failed a roadside breath test.

The 43-year-old man was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, having over 80mgs of alcohol in blood and drive while under suspension. His licenced was suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He was held in custody and is facing other charges unrelated to the impaired driving offence.

On Sunday, Oct. 5 at about 2:50 a.m., police received an impaired driving complaint on The Kingsway. Officers located the vehicle, and the male driver failed a roadside screening test.

The 20-year-old man was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, having more than 80mgs of alcohol in his blood and possession of a controlled substance. His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.

On Friday, Oct. 10 at about 9:54 p.m., officers were investigating three hit and runs that occurred in the city. A man was driving his pickup truck in an erratic manner and was stopped by police on Kathleen Street, where he exhibited signs of impairment from being under the influence of drugs.

He was arrested at the scene and transported to police headquarters where he was put through tests conducted by a specially trained drug recognition expert.

The 33-year-old man was charged with driving while his ability was impaired by drugs, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, possession of a controlled substance, failing to remain at the scene of a collision, failing to report an accident and driving without licence plates. He was held pending a bail hearing.

On Sunday, Oct. 12 at about 12:45 p.m., officers stopped a vehicle for a Highway Traffic Act violation. The driver was found to be contravening his licence conditions as a class G1 probationary licence holder.

When speaking with the driver, the officer detected alcohol on the driver's breath. The 51-year-old man failed a roadside screening device, and breath tests at police headquarters revealed the driver to have over 80mgs of alcohol in his blood.

He is charged with having over 80mgs of alcohol in his blood and driving while disqualified. He had his driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days. He was held in custody.
