Halloween night turned out not to be a treat for those charged after Greater Sudbury Police, accompanied by a liquor inspector from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission, visited 10 local drinking establishments.

A total of eight provincial notices were issued, and five people were taken into police custody and lodged for safety because of their intoxicated state.

The offences included being intoxicated in a public place, exceeding the lawful capacity of premises, permit patron removal of liquor from premises and consuming liquor outside of a licenced establishment.

The Halloween initiative was a “proactive project aimed at impacting crime through increased visibility, education an enforcement,” a press release from Greater Sudbury Police said.
