A 70-year-old man was found safe and unharmed early Nov. 11 after he didn't return from a hunting trip, said the Ontario Provincial Police.

OPP officers were called in Nov. 10 to help find a missing a missing hunter in the French River area. Members of the Emergency Response Team were involved in the search.

“The male hunter, realizing he was lost, had stayed in one location, and had started a fire to keep himself warm, which is the proper action to take when lost,” said the OPP in a news release. “Police remind hunters to stay in one place if separated from their hunting party or have become disoriented. No matter how experienced or familiar a hunter is with the area, there is always a chance that something can go wrong.”

Any hunter, regardless of how long they will be out in the woods, should always have extra clothing, survival gear, let someone know of their plans and destination, and have a form of a communication device with them at all times, said the OPP.
