Teen facing charges in crash that injured two women

A 19-year-old man is facing multiple charges after a serious car crash on Highway 69 North on Nov. 22 that injured two women. The incident occurred at around 4:15 p.m. and involved an SUV driven by the teen and a car.

A 19-year-old man is facing multiple charges after a serious car crash on Highway 69 North on Nov. 22 that injured two women.

The incident occurred at around 4:15 p.m. and involved an SUV driven by the teen and a car. Greater Sudbury Police say the teen was travelling north near McCrea Heights when he became distracted.

His vehicle veered into the oncoming lane and struck the car. The car's driver, a 68-year-old woman, along with her 47-year-old daughter had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Greater Sudbury Fire Department.

The 68-year-old woman is in serious but stable condition, while her daughter's injuries are serious but non life-threatening.

The SUV driver faces charges of impaired driving, being a novice driver with blood alcohol content above zero, being a young driver with blood alcohol content above zero, two counts of criminal negligence causing bodily harm and two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.

“The Greater Sudbury Police is urging citizens not to use hand-held devices or engage in any activity that distracts them from fully concentrating on driving in a safe and courteous manner,” a news release said.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
