A 46-year-old Chelmsford man has been charged for fleeing from police on Nov. 24 when he tried to avoid a RIDE check, said the Ontario Provincial Police.

The man is also charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle and stunt driving. OPP officers conducting RIDE checks on Municipal Road 35 near the intersection of MR15 and Highway 144 at about 9:25 p.m. watched the driver make an abrupt U-turn before getting to the spot check.

He sped away, and officers gave pursuit. The vehicle pulled into a driveway on Elizabeth Street, where the driver jumped out and fled into the woods.

A K9 track failed to locate him, but further investigation led to his identification and arrest on Nov. 25.

The driver had his licence suspended for seven days, and his vehicle has been impounded for seven days.

He was released from custody with a court date for Jan. 7, 2015.
