Officers were contacted Nov. 30 to check on the well-being of a resident on Mountain Street, who had not been hear from since Nov. 28.

Officers had to force their way into the apartment, where they found 53-year-old Russell Plume in medical distress. He was taken to Health Sciences North, and died from his injuries on Dec. 1.

The investigation involved a post-mortem examination, an examination of security video from the area and a forensic examination of the scene. Numerous witness interviews were conducted including one of a male observed leaving the residence via an upper story window.

"The Greater Sudbury Police Service would like to thank area residents whose co-operation greatly assisted the investigation."

Original story

Police have identified the man who was found in serious condition in a Mountain Street residence Nov. 30, who later died a day later in hospital.

Officers had to force their way into the locked apartment where they found Russell Plume, 53, who was in obvious distress and who hadn't been heard from since Nov. 28.

Members of Greater Sudbury Police's Criminal Investigations Division have interviewed several witnesses and have now released the scene where Plume was found. No word yet on the cause of Plume's death.

Staff Sgt. John Somerset said Thursday morning police were still investigating the incident and couldn't say whether foul play was suspected in the fatality or comment on the nature of Plume's injuries.

That information will be made public once investigators have completed their work, Somerset said.
