A police officer received "very minor" injuries Dec. 16 after the cruiser he was driving on The Kingsway rear ended a school bus that was being driven to a garage for repair after it broke down, said Greater Sudbury Police Service.

The officer stopped at about 6:45 p.m. to assist a disable, out-of-service school bus. The officer followed the school bus westbound on The Kingsway a short distance. The bus stopped suddenly near Cochrane Street in the curbside lane without any brake lighting.

The officer braked, but the front end of the cruiser slid under the rear end of the bus, causing extensive front-end damage to the cruiser.

The officer, after being treated at Health Sciences North, returned to duty.

No one else was injured.

The Traffic Management Unit was called in to investigate this motor vehicle collision. Both vehicles were towed by police. There will be a mechanical examination of the vehicles as a part of the investigation which is ongoing at this time.
