A vehicle was removed from Ramsey Lake this morning after it became stuck Jan. 19, said Greater Sudbury Police Service.

Officers responded to a call early Sunday morning about a vehicle stuck on the ice. The driver had requested a tow truck, however, due to the weight of the tow truck and safety concerns, the tow company was not able to help.

Initially, the driver did not want to leave his vehicle unattended overnight and was staying with the vehicle, said police. This caused concern due to the inclement weather conditions.

Police contacted the driver by cellphone. Arrangements were made to safely remove the vehicle later this morning.

Greater Sudbury Police Service wants to remind people accessing frozen waterways, whether out on a walk, on a snowmobile ride or ice fishing, that it is everyone's responsibility to ensure there is sufficient “quality” ice to support the weight being applied (persons with and without vehicles).
