A 52-year-old man had to climb out the driver's side window of his vehicle after ditching it on Lorne Street Jan. 25, said Greater Sudbury Police Service.

The man has been charged with impaired driving after an eyewitness called police about a vehicle driving southbound on Tuddenham. It drove through a stop sign at the intersection at Lorne Street. It continued to drive across Lorne Street, crossing four lanes of traffic, and hitting the curb on the opposite side of the road.

The vehicle had enough momentum to jump the curb, plow through the snowbank, and stopping down the embankment of the roadway, said police. As the vehicle's doors were jammed, the driver had to crawl out of the driver's side window.

When police arrived on scene, officers demanded a breath sample. The driver refused. He was arrested and taken to police headquarters, where he was charged with impaired driving and refusing a breath sample.

He has a court date in February.
