There seems to have been a need for speed on Greater Sudbury roads last week.

On Feb. 9, a Greater Sudbury Police Service traffic officer was conducting speed enforcement on Municipal Road 35 at the turn to the Collision Report Centre in Azilda.

At about 2:30 p.m., the officer clocked a car travelling 135km/h in an 80km/h zone. The 17-year-old female driver was stopped and charged with stunt driving for exceeding the speed limit by more than 50 km/hr.

Then, the next day at approximately 5 p.m. again on MR 35, this time near the Lasalle extension, a pickup truck was clocked doing 130km/h in an 80 km/h zone. The 23-year-old male driver was stopped and charged with stunt driving.

Both drivers were issued summons to attend traffic court and had their driver’s licences suspended for seven days. Both vehicles were also impounded for seven days as a result.
