Young snowmobiler killed in Mattawa

A 12-year-old boy was killed when crossing the highway near Mattawa Sunday, said the Ontario Provincial Police.

A 12-year-old boy was killed when crossing the highway near Mattawa Sunday, said the Ontario Provincial Police.

The boy, identified as Bailey Matte-Edmonds, was hit by a northbound vehicle on Highway 630 at Peddlers Drive in Calvin Township, said police. The collision happened just after 4 p.m.

Police said as the vehicle was travelling on the highway, the snowmobile came from a field beside the highway and drove in front of the vehicle.

The young snowmobiler was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries. He died as a result of his injuries.

Members of the Technical Traffic Collision Investigations unit and Calvin Fire Department attended the scene.
