Firefighters rescue driver after excavator goes through ice

Greater Sudbury firefighters rescued the driver of an excavator late Saturday after the vehicle went through the ice on a tailings pond. The incident took place on Vale property on Creighton Road around 11:15 p.m.

 Greater Sudbury firefighters rescued the driver of an excavator late Saturday after the vehicle went through the ice on a tailings pond.

The incident took place on Vale property on Creighton Road around 11:15 p.m. In all, 12 firefighters from two stations took part in the rescue. The driver was not injured.

Firefighters remind the public to be cautious and to be aware of ice conditions as the warmer weather takes hold this spring.
