Youth makes up story about being held at knife-point

Greater Sudbury Police Service said a girl made up a story on April 2 about being grabbed by an unknown man carrying a knife. She alleged she was grabbed while walking down a laneway between Dell Street and St. Charles Street.

Greater Sudbury Police Service said a girl made up a story on April 2 about being grabbed by an unknown man carrying a knife.

She alleged she was grabbed while walking down a laneway between Dell Street and St. Charles Street.

"Members of the Greater Sudbury Police Service Criminal Investigations Division have confirmed that this was a false allegation and that the incident did not occur," said a news release.

As such, a local youth has been charged with public mischief contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

The Greater Sudbury Police Service is no longer actively pursuing this matter and would like to thank the public for their assistance.

Greater Sudbury Police are searching for a male suspect who allegedly grabbed a woman at knife-point Thursday.

At approximately 10:40 p.m. on April 2, members of the Greater Sudbury Police Service responded to a call for assistance in the laneway between - and parallel to - Dell Street and St-Charles Street. west of Notre-Dame Avenue.

A female was approached and grabbed by an unknown male carrying a knife within the laneway as she walked towards Laforest Street. A brief struggle ensued before the male released the female and fled on foot.

The victim did not require medical attention.

Police have described the suspect as a male in his mid-twenties, with a medium build, and around 5'8” in height. He was wearing dark clothing at the time of the incident.

Members of the Criminal Investigations Division are actively investigating this matter.

Police would like to remind members of the public to be report any suspicious activity.
