Police host open house in Walden on May 11

The Greater Sudbury Police Service is hosting an Open House at the Walden Police Storefront, Walden Plaza on Monday, May 11 from 1-7 p.m.

This is the third Police Open House held over the last year, each drawing in more than 100 participants, said a news release.

Highlights of the event will include a bike rodeo, scheduled for 1-3 p.m., Walden Youth Group vs. GSPS ball hockey game at 3:30 p.m. and Chief Pedersen and other dignitaries will speak at 2 p.m.

Held in conjunction with Police Week, there will be many displays, demonstrations and information booths including the GSPS Tactical and K9 team, the Rural Community Response Unit Marine and ATV squads, police museum, crime prevention, seniors liaison and elder abuse, victim services, and Crime Stoppers.

The event will also showcase how community members can become involved with the police storefront through presentations and displays by the Citizens on Patrol and Storefront Friendly Call volunteer programs. There is free barbecue and cake, sponsored by Walden CAN, and door prize draws.
