OPP cracks down on Easter drivers

The Ontario Provincial Police caught two impaired drivers and handed out 36 speeding tickets over the Easter long weekend.

The Ontario Provincial Police caught two impaired drivers and handed out 36 speeding tickets over the Easter long weekend.

Officers also handed out the following fines:

-5 seatbelt infractions
-25 other Highway Traffic Act offences
-2 Liquor Licence Act offences
-2 other provincial offences
-3 driving while suspended offences
-1 driving while disqualified offences
-1 drug charge
-1 motor vehicle collision

“The Sudbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police  would like to thank the public in helping prevent tragedies on our area highways, trails and waterways this past weekend,” said a news release.

“Officers were out in high visibility this weekend, and, while there were still numerous charges laid ranging from speeding, impaired driving and seatbelt offences, there were not any serious motor vehicle collisions in the Sudbury/Espanola area.”

The detachment responded to approximately 71 calls for service, as well as patrolling all area highways and municipalities during the long weekend from April 3 at midnight, until April 6 at midnight.
