A Sudbury man had a rather rude awakening at 5 a.m. on April 14.

The 44 year old male awoke to find a masked intruder ransacking his Simon Lake Road home in Naughton, Greater Sudbury Police reported this morning.

The man was in the process of helping himself to the homeowner's possessions when the man, who had been so rudely awakened, confronted the thief, who attempted to flee the residence.

For some people, the fact the thief was making a break for it would be enough, but not for this homeowner. Police say he chased the robber out of the house, eventually catching up to him and tackling him to the ground — before giving the intruder a sound beating.

With injuries to his face and head oozing enough blood to leave evidence at the scene, police allege the suspect then produced a knife or other kind of edged weapon and threatened the homeowner, before making good his escape.

Greater Sudbury Police are now on the hunt for the suspect.

He is described as being in his late teens (around 17 years old) and 6-0 feet tall with short, dark blond or brownish hair. He may be a resident of Naughton.
