Crime Stoppers and the Greater Sudbury Police Service are looking for the public's help in getting to the bottom of the vandalism that occurred at the Coniston War Memorial over the weekend.

Sometime between the evening of May 9 and the late morning of May 10, the memorial was vandalized. It is located in Centennial Park in the middle of Coniston.

Granite benches were pulled from their bases, the legs broken off and thrown into the reflecting pool. Two of the granite pieces around the pool were broken in half and memorial wreaths were ripped from the ground and thrown into the pool also.

Damages could exceed $3,000.

Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers is offering a guaranteed minimum $1,000 reward for tips received before midnight May 24, if the information leads to an arrest. The reward money will be divided up if many successful tips are received, Crime Stoppers said in a news release.
