New awards honour social worker, police killed on job (11 photos)

The Greater Sudbury Police Service celebrated its first Our Shared Commitment Awards last night to recognize citizens, organizations and members of the community for their outstanding service.

The Greater Sudbury Police Service celebrated its first Our Shared Commitment Awards last night to recognize citizens, organizations and members of the community for their outstanding service.

Police Chief Paul Pedersen presented 10 awards in all, including three categories created to honour the memories and service of Sgt. Richard McDonald, Const. Joseph MacDonald and Nicole Belair.

Other categories included the Heroic Actions Award, Meritorious Actions Award, Police Assistance Award, and the Teamwork Commendation Award.

“We honour and thank those who have demonstrated community commitment and leadership to incidents that required quick and immediate intervention,” said the Greater Sudbury Police in a press release.
