Fire on South Shore Road causes $200K in damage

A fire early Saturday morning caused $200,000 in damage to a detached garage on South Shore Road in the city's South End. The Greater Sudbury Fire Department responded to the call at 12:51 a.m.

A fire early Saturday morning caused $200,000 in damage to a detached garage on South Shore Road in the city's South End.

The Greater Sudbury Fire Department responded to the call at 12:51 a.m., with 13 firefighters from two stations responding to the blaze. There were no injuries.

The fire caused structural damage and extensive smoke damage worth about $200,000, a new release from the fire department said.

No word yet on the cause of the fire, but the release reminded residents of the importance of having a fire escape plan prepared in case of emergency.
