Two dirt bike riders were charged on June 13 after attempting to flee from police.

On June 13, a member of the GSPS Traffic Management Unit attempted to stop three dirt bikes on Desjardins Street in Garson.

The riders attempted to flee. However, one driver stalled the engine and was stopped resulting in being charged for violations under the Provincial Offences Act.

The remaining two dirt bikers were located a short time later in the Vale Pit off Goodwill Drive. Once again, the two dirt bikes disregarded officer’s commands to stop, and they attempted to flee.

One of the drivers tipped over the dirt bike while attempting to turn around, giving officers the opportunity to place the driver under arrest for flight from police.

This driver was charged with violations under the Provincial Offences Act, including drive motor vehicle with no insurance and careless driving. The driver will answer to these charges on the 15th of July 2015.

Two female drivers, aged 21 and 22, have been charged.

The Traffic Management Unit was conducting enforcement in Garson Pit area to address the complaints received regarding dirt bikes trespassing on private property, speeding, driving without insurance and improper mufflers.

Police are attempting to locate the driver of the third dirt bike who fled the area when the officer tried to stop them.

Anyone with information is asked to call police and report the matter to the Traffic Management Unit or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS

Enforcement in this area and other parts of Greater Sudbury will continue.
