A 26-year-old Timmins man faces a number of charges in connection to a June 17 break and enter at Canadian Tire in Timmins.

Shortly after 4 a.m. on June 17, employees of Canadian Tire attended the store in response to an alarm call, said a press release. Upon entering the store, the employees believed the suspect to be in the building, immediately exited, and called Timmins Police Service.

Police responded at about 4:20 a.m. and observed that the firearms cabinet had been breached, and that some weapons appeared to be missing. For safety reasons, officers then exited the building to await backup, and the building was contained. With assistance from the Ontario Provincial Police Tactical and Rescue Unit (TRU), and Canine Unit, the building was searched and cleared, with no individuals being located in the building.

Following an investigation by the Timmins Police Service Criminal Investigation Section and Forensic Identification Unit, along with an inventory completed by staff, it was determined that a quantity of air rifles and air guns were taken. These items have not been recovered. Additional property β€” including several tools β€” was also taken. The approximate value of the items stolen from Canadian Tire is $2,300.

The suspect faces charges of break and enter and theft, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and disguise with intent. He was further charged in relation to two additional incidents at local retailers.

On June 10, at about 5:45 a.m., a break and enter occurred at an electronics retailer on Riverside Drive. Once access was gained to the store, several items were taken including cellular and electronics devices. Other items were damaged during the incident. The estimated value of the stolen property is $6,700.

In relation to this incident, the suspect is further charged with break and enter, theft, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and mischief under $5,000.

On June 26, an attempted break and enter occurred at another retail outlet on Riverside Drive. In this incident, entry was gained to the store; however, the suspect quickly retreated when confronted by night staff. This incident also involved another individual who allegedly waited outside while the suspect gained access to the building.

In relation to this incident, the suspect is charged with break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence, and possession of break-in instruments.

A 22-year-old Timmins man was also charged with break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence and two counts of failure to comply with a probation order.

The 26-year-old was held for bail, with a court date scheduled for today.

The 22-year-old was released on a promise to appear with a court date scheduled for Aug. 18.

β€œAt this time, the Timmins Police Service would like to thank the public for their assistance in these investigations. The tips and information provided, in combination with the investigative skill displayed by investigating officers, were integral in identifying the suspect(s) in these Break and Enters,” said a news release.
