Man and woman from Parry Sound killed in Hwy. 69 collision

The West Parry Sound OPP have released the names of the two people killed in a collision on Highway 69 near Pointe Au Baril July 25.

Andre Veilleux, 72, and Doreen Veilleux, 71, of Parry Sound were pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation has revealed a northbound pick-up truck attempted to pass two trucks pulling campers and was forced to swerve to miss a southbound SUV.

The SUV swerved into the northbound lane and hit a northbound camper truck head-on. Two occupants from the pick-up truck and two occupants from the northbound truck pulling the camper trailer were transported to hospital for treatment and released.

The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact Const. Aaron Jeffery at 705-746-4225.

Two people were killed and four injured Saturday afternoon in a multi-vehicle crash three kilometres from Pointe au Baril. The roadway near the tragedy was closed as of late Saturday afternoon as members of the West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police investigate.

“A northbound pickup truck attempted to pass two camper trucks and was forced to (swerve) to miss a southbound Sport Utility Vehicle,” a released from the OPP said.

“The SUV met the northbound camper truck head on.”

The OPP, members of the force's Technical Traffic Collision Investigators, Carling Fire Department, Parry Sound Emergency Medical Services and OPP helicopter converged on the scene.

“Both occupants of the SUV succumbed to their injuries at the scene,” the release said. “Two occupants from the pickup truck and two occupants from the camper truck were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”

The investigation is continuing.
