Motorized scooter driver charged with impaired

A man who was driving a motorized scooter is facing several impaired driving-related charges after being stopped by Greater Sudbury Police on Paris Street June 24. The 46-year-old man was exhibiting signs of being impaired by alcohol.

A man who was driving a motorized scooter is facing several impaired driving-related charges after being stopped by Greater Sudbury Police on Paris Street June 24.

The 46-year-old man was exhibiting signs of being impaired by alcohol. Breath tests confirmed he had twice the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.

He was charged with over 80, impaired driving, possession of a controlled substance and five counts of driving while under suspension.

This was just one of several impaired driving-related charges laid by Greater Sudbury Police over the past month. Here's a few more incidents detailed by police in a July 29 press release:

On June 24, a 50-year-old man who was stopped by police on Kathleen Street was charged with having over 80mgs of alcohol in his blood.

On June 25, a 22-year-old man was charged with having over 80mgs of alcohol in his blood and impaired care and control.

Police observed the suspect in his vehicle at the boat launch area at White Water Park in Azilda.

When the officer investigated the man, they found him to be under the influence of alcohol and in care and control of his motor vehicle. Breath tests confirmed that he had more than three times the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.

On July 4, a 49-year-old man was charged with impaired driving, having over 80mgs of alcohol in his blood, dangerous driving and possession of a controlled substance.

Police received a traffic complaint involving the vehicle the suspect was driving, and located it on The Kingsway. The officer confirmed the presence of alcohol and arrested the suspect. He was held for bail court in the morning.

On July 10, a 43-year-old man was charged with having over 80mgs of alcohol in his blood and impaired driving. Police were contacted regarding an erratic driving complaint on Lasalle Boulevard, and officers located the vehicle.

The driver was exhibiting signs of alcohol impairment and was arrested at the scene. Breath tests confirmed he had two and half times the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.

On July 11, a 44-year-old man was charged with having over 80mgs of alcohol in his blood.

The suspect was stopped by police during a RIDE spot check on Long Lake Road. The investigating officer administered a roadside breath test and confirmed the presence of alcohol.

The man was arrested and breath tests at the police station confirmed he had over 80mgs of alcohol in his blood.

On July 11, a 58-year-old man was charged with having over 80mgs of alcohol in his blood and impaired driving.

Officers were sent to a collision on Falconbridge Road. Officers spoke with the suspect, who was involved in the collision. He exhibited signs of alcohol consumption and was arrested after a roadside breath test resulted in a fail. Breath tests at the police station confirmed the presence of alcohol. He had three and half times the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.

On July 16, a 67-year-old man charged with having over 80mgs of alcohol in his blood.

The suspect was stopped by police on Municipal Road 55. The officer investigated the driver for being under the influence of alcohol and confirmed the presence of alcohol by using an approved screening device.

The driver registered a fail and was arrested. Breath tests at the police station confirmed the suspect had twice the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.

On July 18, a 45-year-old man was charged with having over 80mgs of alcohol in his blood and impaired driving. The suspect was stopped during a RIDE check on Notre Dame Avenue.

He was found to be intoxicated by alcohol and was arrested at the scene for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. Breath tests confirmed the suspect had twice the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.

On July 21, a 32-year-old man was charged with having care and control of a motor vehicle with over 80mgs of alcohol in his blood.

Officers on patrol stopped the suspect after a traffic violation on Kathleen Street at Lansdowne Street. The officer detected alcohol and demanded a breath sample into an approved screening device.

The suspect registered a fail and was arrested. Breath tests at the station confirmed he had almost three times the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.

All drivers involved have had their drivers licence suspended for 90 days and their vehicle impounded for seven days.
