A Sudbury man says he was knocked unconscious by a group of attackers while walking home from a friend's housewarming party in the Flour Mill.

Andrew Low was walking home Saturday night on Morin Avenue, around five paces behind a couple of his friends, when a group of men in hoodies approached him from behind.

“It was friendly at first,” Low said. “Then they pushed me over and said, 'Give me your wallet.'”

Low said what happened next is a blur. But he said he remembers at least two men pushing him down and punching him in the face.

By Sunday afternoon he had a visible black eye and a small cuts on his arms from being pushed down.

Low's friend Adam Leblanc – who was with him that night – told him five men attacked him, and a few more stood and watched.

Low said he remembers waking up on a backboard, and being brought to Health Sciences North, where staff confirmed he was concussed.

Hospital staff also told him they had seen several similar cases that night from the Flour Mill.

NorthernLife.ca contacted Greater Sudbury Police Service's on-duty staff sergeant who said he was not aware of the incident because it happened before he started his shift Sunday morning.

Low said he has been concussed twice before, while skiing and snowboarding.

In the end, he said, his attackers didn't take his wallet.

“If I was alone, who knows what would have happened,” he said.

Low said his friends called police, which likely scared off his attackers before they could steal his belongings.

Low added he has walked through the Flour Mill at night “a million and one” times, and never had a bad experience until Saturday night.

“I've always felt comfortable,” he said.
