Citizens should not feel unsafe after an attack in the Flour Mill early Sunday morning, says the Greater Sudbury Police Service.

“I don't want people thinking there's a gang of miscreants running around in the Flour Mill,” said Greater Sudbury Police Staff Sgt. Craig Maki.

NorthernLife.ca reported Sunday that a man was attacked and knocked unconscious while walking home from a housewarming party in the Flour Mill.

Maki confirmed police received a call about the incident at around 2:59 Sunday morning.

The attack's victim, Andrew Low, told NorthernLife.ca that when he was admitted to Health Sciences North, staff told him they had seen several similar cases that night from the Flour Mill.

“I would dispute what the person you interviewed was told,” Maki said. He said police responded to one other incident near the downtown core earlier that night, where an argument outside a bar turned violent.

A person was transported to Health Sciences North for treatment after the fight outside the downtown bar.

Maki said over the weekend, from midnight Friday to midnight Sunday, there were 36 incidents throughout Greater Sudbury that fell under the categories of “suspicious persons, assault and threatening disturbances needing police assistance.”
