Greater Sudbury Police have killed another bear, this time at Camp Sudaca.

At around 12:30 p.m. Aug. 20, police received a complaint from a City of Greater Sudbury staff member about a mother bear and three cubs at the camp.

The bears had located a human food source, and were eating this food. There were 90 children at Camp Sudaca at the time. Although these children were in a safe place, there was still a concern for their well-being.

Police and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry went to the scene to deal with the bears.

The MNRF bear technician requested that police dispatch the mother bear, as they believe this to be the same bear that was reported to be aggressive around Laurentian University earlier this week.

The bear was killed. MNRF staff were able to catch two of the cubs, and have transferred them to a wildlife refuge. A trap was set for the remaining bear cub. The cub is not a threat to the public, a press release from Greater Sudbury Police said.
