Greater Sudbury Police Service invited media to take a look at the new licence plate scanner today.

With some 10,000 people driving with suspended licences in the city, police say the scanner will go a long way to getting drivers off the road who have lost their right to be on the road.

The device scans licence plates in front and behind the police vehicle, and can also scan parked cars. When it comes to privacy concerns, GSPS has said repeatedly that the scanner doesn't keep a record of every plate it scans, only those that register a hit.
