RIDE check catches five drivers for open alcohol

The Greater Sudbury Police checked 225 drivers during RIDE program spot checks on Aug. 29.

During the check stops at Lorne St at Big Nickel Mine Rd, Municipal Road 24 at Niemi Rd, Lively and Errington St at Hill St in Chelmsford officers issued one 90-day license suspension and laid charges to a driver with a blood alcohol content that was close to three times the legal limit.

A total of five Highway Traffic Act offenses resulted in charges and five drivers were charged for having open liquor in their vehicle.

The Greater Sudbury Police Service and Action Sudbury continue to support Operation Lookout, a Canada-wide, year-round public awareness program that encourages the public and / or businesses to call 9-1-1 if they suspect an impaired driver.
