Two men hit with drug and alcohol charges at R.I.D.E. stop

Sudbury OPP arrested and charged two males for drug and alcohol related offenses during a R.I.D.E. check stop on Sept. 18 on Hwy. 144.

At approximately 9:50 pm on Sept. 18 officers had occasion to check a northbound vehicle occupied by two males who stopped at the R.I.D.E. program.

Officers detected the odor of drugs and alcohol emanating from interior of the vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, police located and seized marijuana and alcohol and charged both individuals.

The driver, a 22 year-old male from Azilda, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The passenger, a 24 year-old male rom Onaping Falls, was arrested and charged with failing to comply with a probation order, contrary to the Criminal Code and consuming liquor in other than licenced premises, residence or private place, contrary to the Liquor Licence Act.

The two will appear in Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury, on October 14, 2015, to answer to their charges.

The OPP is reminding motorists that there is no safe amount of alcohol or drug consumption when driving. Anyone who suspects a driver is driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.
