Police seize drugs, weapons from Nairn home

On Sept. 26 at approximately 10:40 p.m., officers from the Sudbury/Espanola Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a threatening incident at a property situated on Minto Street, in the Town of Nairn Centre.

On Sept. 26 at approximately 10:40 p.m., officers from the Sudbury/Espanola Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a threatening incident at a property situated on Minto Street, in the Town of Nairn Centre.

As a result of the investigation and with the assistance of the OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB), police executed search warrants and seized weapons and drugs with the drugs having an estimated value of $79,000.

A 52-year-old man from Nairn Centre, was arrested and charged with the following offences:

1. Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm, contrary to the Criminal Code (CC)
2. Produce a Controlled Substance, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
3. Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
4. Possession of a Controlled Substance, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
5. Careless Storage of a Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition X2, contrary to the Criminal Code.

He was held in custody and was scheduled for a court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury, on Sept. 29.

A 56-year-old female also from Nairn Centre was arrested and charged with the following offences:
1. Produce a Controlled Substance, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
2. Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
3. Possession of a Controlled Substance, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
4. Careless Storage of a Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition, contrary to the Criminal Code

She will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Nov. 3 to answer to her charges.
