Pedestrian killed in collision on Elgin

All roadways that had been closed as a result of this collision are now reopened, as the Greater Sudbury Police's Traffic Management Unit has concluded its initial investigation, police said in a press release issued at 8:25 p.m. Sept. 30.

A 58-year-old woman is dead following a collision with a piece of heavy construction equipment on Elgin.

Members of the Traffic Management Unit are investigating.

The area will remain closed until further notice.

 

Name of the deceased has not been released, as her family has not yet been contacted.

Greater Sudbury Police Service is on scene of a possible fatal pedestrian collision involving a piece of heavy construction equipment at the corner of Elgin and Beech streets.

Eyewitnesses say the victim is a woman. A grader is stopped near the intersection, with a mangled walker laying beside it.

Police have not released any information about the incident except that a collision did occur and that several streets were closed due to the occurrence.

Police could not be immediately reached. However, they have closed the following roads: Beech St. at Frood Rd.; Ste. Anne Rd. at Elgin St.; Elgin St. at Elm St. and Durham St. at Beech St.

“Vehicles and all pedestrian traffic are urged to avoid the area. Drivers must access alternate routes until further notice,” said a news release.

A follow-up release will be issued to provide further details and to advise when the roadway will be open to traffic.
