The man charged in the December 2013 death of 29-year-old Timothy Lamothe was convicted of manslaughter in a Sudbury court Sept. 29.

Skylar Dalyk was originally charged with second degree murder. A sentencing date will be set Friday for the 25-year-old man.

Police were called to a Chelmsford home on Dec. 12, 2013, shortly before 9 p.m. Lamothe was taken to Health Sciences North with stab wounds. He died as a result of those injuries.

Jurors heard during the two-week trial that Lamothe was trying to collect a drug debt from Dalyk.

The Crown said Lamothe had surprised Dalyk at the Algoma Tavern, and after a chase, Dalyk stabbed Lamothe. The defence contended that Dalyk had acted out of self-defence.
