Sudbury woman facing impaired, drug charges

A Greater Sudbury resident is facing impaired and drug charges after an incident on Whitefish River First Nation this past weekend.

On Oct. 3 at around 11 p.m., the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was dispatched to assist the UCCM (United Chiefs and Councils of Mnidoo Mnising) Anishnabe Police Service with a disturbance at a residence on Old Village Road in Whitefish River First Nation.

In a news release, police said they arrived on scene to find a white Hyundai Santa Fe driving away from a residence. The vehicle was stopped, at which time police said in a news release it was determined the driver had consumed alcohol.

While searching the driver, police reported they found a quantity of marijuana, as well.

A 47-year-old Greater Sudbury woman faces three charges in relation to the incident. The charges are:

Care or Control while ability Impaired – Motor Vehicle, contrary to the Criminal Code (CC);

Care or Control of Motor Vehicle over 80 mgs of Alcohol, contrary to the Criminal Code (CC); and

Possession of Marijuana under 30 grams, contrary to the Control Drugs and Substance Act.

The accused was released and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Nov. 30 in Gore Bay to answer to the charges.
