Highway 17 re-opened after fatal collision

Highway 17 at Southview Drive has been re-opened by Sudbury OPP.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that took place on Highway 17 at Southview Drive.

Members of the Sudbury OPP detachment responded to the collision at approximately 2:46 p.m.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that a Chevrolet was crossing Highway 17 at Southview Drive. A GMC pickup was west bound on Highway 17 and collided with the Chevrolet.

The driver of the Chevrolet sustained serious injuries and was transported by Emergency Medical Services to a local hospital.

The passenger of the Chevrolet was killed.

The driver of the GMC was not seriously injured.

Technical Collision Investigators and Reconstructionists are currently on the scene. The investigation is continuing, motorists can expect some delays.

 

 

Updated at 4:20 p.m.:

The Southview Drive eastbound and westbound ramps are closed. Highway 17 remains open.

The Sudbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police have closed Highway 17 at Southview Drive to investigate a motor vehicle collision.

It is currently unknown how long the road will be closed.
