Traffic tip leads to arrest and charges

Espanola Ontario Provincial Police arrested and charged an impaired driver on Nov. 14 at around 2 a.m. following a traffic complaint. Officers were advised of a vehicle being operated erratically eastbound on Highway 17, near the town of Walford.

Espanola Ontario Provincial Police arrested and charged an impaired driver on Nov. 14 at around 2 a.m. following a traffic complaint.

Officers were advised of a vehicle being operated erratically eastbound on Highway 17, near the town of Walford. Officers patrolled the area and observed the suspect pickup truck travelling eastbound on Highway 17, just west of the town of Massey.

Police initiated a traffic stop and determined that the driver had consumed alcohol.

As a result of the investigation, a 57-year-old man from Serpent River First Nation, was arrested and charged with the following:

1. Adult – Care or control while impaired, contrary to the Criminal Code
2. Adult – Fail or refuse to provide sample, contrary to the Criminal Code
3.Adult – Driving while under suspension, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The man's driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle he was operating was impounded for seven days

The accused will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Dec. 1 to answer to the charges.

Anyone who suspects a driver is driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.
