Suspected tire slasher caught on security video

New Sudbury resident Paul Ducharme is looking for some help in identifying a man who slashed the tires on his truck on Nov. 8.

Ducharme and his family were out of town when the incident occurred, but a security camera at the front of his house captured a man walking up and slashing first the front passenger tire, then the rear.

“We were away for the weekend at a hockey tournament, and when we got back, I noticed that my truck was slanting to the passenger side,” said Ducharme. “I kind of figured the tires had been slashed, and when I went and reviewed the footage from my security camera, that confirmed it.”

Ducharme has his suspicions as to who might have committed this act of mischief and has informed the Greater Sudbury Police Service.

“Someone had to have known that we were out of town to do this,” said Ducharme. “I was surprised to have seen that this was done in broad daylight.”

The incident occurred on Nov. 8 at around 11:45 a.m. in New Sudbury on Sharon Avenue. The area has had its share of unsettling activity, which led to Ducharme purchasing and installing the security camera that captured this most recent incident.

“About two years ago there was a string of break-ins to cars in the area,” said Ducharme. “One evening I left my truck unlocked and it was cleaned out and my wallet was stolen out of there. That's when I decided to set up the camera. This is the first incident since then.”

Ducharme spoke with a neighbour to find out if she had seen anything, but no one saw the man enter or leave Ducharme's property.

“I'm just trying to get the word out there and hopefully identify this guy,” said Ducharme. “Unfortunately the camera didn't really get a good look at his face the picture is pixelated when he turns around.”
