Police arrest man, 28, for harassing girls on social media

A fictitious name, social media, young females and “inappropriate communication” on social media led to the arrest of a 28-year-old man.

A fictitious name, social media, young females and “inappropriate communication” on social media led to the arrest of a 28-year-old man.

In a news release this afternoon, the Greater Sudbury Police Service has been investigating a criminal harassment case wherein an unknown person had been “utilizing social media under a fictitious name to contact young females and engaging them in inappropriate communication.”

The investigation led detectives to a man in the Ottawa Region.

With the assistance of the Ottawa Police Service, police today said a 28-year-old male, who resides in the Ottawa area has been arrested on a Canada-wide warrant for three counts of criminal harassment, contrary to Section 264(2) of the Criminal Code.

Police said the charges are the result of a two-year criminal investigation.

The man was arrested in Ottawa on Nov. 17 and appears in bail court today in Sudbury.
