Roadway re-opened after fatal crash

Updated at 12:55 p.m.: Greater Sudbury Police have released additional information about this morning's crash on Highway 69 North.

The deceased has been identified as a 54-year-old woman from Val Caron. She was a passenger in a vehicle that was struck by a van. Her name has been released.

Police are now saying the road will remain closed until approximately 2 p.m. Earlier today, police said they expected to open the road at noon.

GSPS is also urging any witnesses or anyone with information to call 705-675-9171, extension 2411.

Members of the Greater Sudbury Police Service's traffic management unit are still at the scene of a fatal collision on Highway 69 North as the investigation into this morning's crash continues. Police are warning drivers to expect the road to remain closed until noon.

 

A follow-up news release will be issued later today to provide further details and to advise when the roadway will be open to traffic.

One person is dead and two are being treated for non life-threatening injuries after a motor vehicle collision between two vehicles on MR 80 (Highway 69 North) north of Tracks and Wheels this morning.

The road remains closed until further notice, Greater Sudbury Police said in a press release sent out at around 8:10 a.m.

The few centimetres of new snow we've gotten this morning have caused some problems on local roadways.

Highway 144 between Cartier and Gogama was reopened shortly after 7 a.m. this morning after being closed for about an hour and a half due to weather conditions.

We've also received notice that MR 80 (Highway 69 North) north of Tracks and Wheels is closed to all vehicles at this hour due to a motor vehicle collision. That's according to a press release sent out by Greater Sudbury Police shortly after 7 a.m. this morning.

Drivers are advised to seek alternate routes until further notice.
