Here's a thought: Don't drink and drive thru

On Nov. 20 at 8:05 p.m., members of the Espanola OPP were advised of a traffic complaint regarding a male driving through a fast food restaurant lineup at the junction of Highway 17 and Highway 6, in the town of McKerrow and being observed consuming alcohol.

Police spotted the passenger car travelling eastbound on Highway 17 and initiated a traffic stop in the Town of Nairn Centre.

It was determined that the driver had consumed alcohol. A roadside breath test was administered. The driver registered a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) in the “warn range” of .05 to .08 .

As a result of the investigation, a 24-year-old man from Walden, was issued an immediate roadside driver’s licence suspension for three days and the vehicle he was operating was impounded for seven days.

The driver was also charged with the following offences:
1.Adult – Driving while under suspension, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
2.Adult – Operating a motor vehicle without insurance, contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act
3.Adult – Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor, contrary to the Liquor Licence Act

The accused will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola, on Jan. 14 to answer to his charges.

The OPP is reminding motorists that there is no safe amount of alcohol or drug consumption when driving. Anyone who suspects a driver is driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.
